Stardust Motel in Newcastle, WyomingArriving in Newcastle, Wyoming after driving through a wicked lightening storm…didn’t stay at this old hotel but love the classic mid-century sign of the Stardust Motel. Earlier that evening, forest fires burnt not too far from the highway. Smoke in the atmosphere made the sunset spectacular. Third photo – Granite Creek Canyon, Bighorn National Forest, Wyoming

Carved lioness head and details on the Flatiron Building, downtown Fort Worth, TexasDowntown Fort Worth has the most beautiful mixture of early 20th century and modern architecture. Because so much consideration has been given to preserving the ornate carvings and tile-work on older buildings, I think Fort Worth has among the top 3 most charming downtown areas in the country. The lioness heads skirt around the sides and above the windows. The Flatiron Building, completed in 1907, was one of city’s the first steel frame buildings and WAS also the tallest building in north Texas at the time.

Next, the Nancy Lee and Perry R. Bass Performance Hall has two 48 foot tall (15 m) angels carved from Texas limestone, and was built in 1998.
